This work experience took place over the week commencing 14.12.20
I have worked at Pizza Express for over two years now and it has allowed me to grow tremendously in my confidence with a range of service skills.
Throughout my time working here I started as a runner of food, with my main customer interaction being welcoming them at the door and showing people to their tables. However becoming a waitress has taught me a variety of skills, such as how to deal with difficult customers or dealing with issues that may occur, and also how to communicate with different types of customers. Working in a fast paced environment, such as this big chain restaurant, has made me better at working as part of a team and taught me how to clearly communicate within that team.
My responisbilites as a waitress at Pizza Express include taking orders from tables, making and delivering drinks and desserts, and also following a cleaning rota.

Teamwork is a vital skill for a waitress to have as if you do not work as a team then the customer experience will not be as good as it could be. I have learned a lot about teamwork since working at Pizza Express, especially that it is always noticed and appreciated by your collegues. Working as a team ensures that experiences are smooth for both the
staff and the customer.
Problem Solving
In busy periods sometimes mistakes
are made by either front or back of
house, and customers can easily become
aggitated by these mistakes. It is my job as their waitress to resolve these problems as quickly as possible, and often offer my apologies for issues. Problem solving as a waitress is sometimes very complex as it may often seem to me that the issue is
insignificant, however I must still
resolve the problem, and this skill
is useful in any job.
Customer Service
Customer service skills are
always important in almost all
industries, especially in hospitality.
Customer service is not only about how a customer is treated, but also how the waitress and restaurant is presented. I always made sure that my hair and clothes were neat and tidy, and also that the tables were clean before showing customers to them. Customer service had to change during and after COVID-19, but I still made an effort to make
the experience as good
as it could be.
